Annie's Ramblings 24 September, 2014

Hi there.  Well, today feels like Spring again (that is after we had winter on Monday), and it almost makes you think about sandals, skirts and barbeques.  (The swimming togs are still a wee way off yet!!)

sept24-2Well....it has been a very busy few days.  We  had a great weekend with the Bird family, and the  Friday night Trunk Show and weekend workshop seemed to be a great success.  Thank you very much to everyone who came along.  These things can be rather an organisational marathon at times, and I do appreciate your support.  I have posted a couple of photos on our Facebook page.

I think that we are probably some of the first people to see Natalie's new BOM quilt Bluebird Lane completed.  (It was so new, that she was still hand sewing the binding down!)  This is available as a full pattern set for $78.00 if you would like to choose your own fabrics, or we are taking registrations of interest if you like to do it as a BOM with fabric through Annie's Country Quilt Store.

The Mouse pincushion is also now available and is $59.90 for the kit or $22.50 for the pattern.

I am off to Auckland tomorrow to attend a class with fabulous Japanese designer Yoko Saito which I am really looking forward to.  We have a number of her books in the shop and if you are not familiar with her work or just need a 'Yoko fix' have a look at this link

I am also busy making samples and kits for the Crafty Christchurch event coming up at the end of October and you can check out the details at http://craftychristchurch.co.nz/.

Also coming up at Labour weekend if you are out and about in the deep south, the Otautau patchwork ladies are having their annual exhibition in the Old Court House on the main street in Otautau (Western Southland),  and they would love to see you.

This week's recipe is a quick and easy breakfast or lunch dish or perhaps Sunday night tea with a crisp fresh salad.

Sweet Corn and Kumara Hash Browns

  • 1 large kumara, peeled and grated
  • 2 corn cobs, kernals removed or a tin of whole kernel corn
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 onions sliced
  • Tabasco to taste
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • salt and pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and then place spoonfuls sizes of the mixture into a shallow pan with hot oil and fry until crispy on both sides.

Serve with guacamole or slices of avocado and sweet chilli sauce.

That's all from me, don't forget about the Dear Jane Club this Sunday from 1-4 pm at Annie's.  Have a great week.

Take care and happy stitching.
