Annies Newsletter - We are hosting the International Quilt Challenge Exhibition

Hi there. Well...we are into May and basically we hit the ground running with lots events coming up.

3.5.18 1This weekend we are hosting the International Quilt Challenge Exhibition in association with Aotearoa Quilters. This features work from 90 quilters from Japan, France and New Zealand and will be open for viewing in the classroom from 10-4 from Friday May 4-6. (Entry by gold coin donation). We are very lucky to have this in our town, so don’t miss out!

Next weekend we will be in Greymouth for Quilt West where I will be teaching as well as being a merchant. Even if you are not registered for classes you are welcome to pop into the Greymouth High School and check out the merchants.

3.5.18 2In the meantime I am excited to be able to tell you that the brand new range of Tilda fabrics has arrived in. It is called “Sunkiss” and features the very pretty pinks, blues, oranges and greens that are quite recognisable as Tilda. Her new book “Sunshine Sewing” is also on order and should be here in the next couple of weeks. Priced at $45.00 you can also pre-order now if you wish.

Now onto the winner of the Annie’s voucher for April. Congratulations to Therle Weily. Your voucher is waiting for you.

This weeks recipe is something a little bit special if you want to impress with dessert.

Chocolate Walnut Torte

  • 6 egg whites
  • 1 c sugar
  • 200 g grated dark chocolate
  • 200 g finely chopped walnuts
  • 200 g finely chopped dates
  • 300 ml cream, whipped
  • Extra chocolate and walnuts to decorate

Preheat the oven to 180 C and prepare two 20 cm cake tins. Beat the egg whites and gradually add the sugar over about 10 minutes. Fold in the chocolate, walnuts and dates and then pour the mixture into the tins. Bake for about 30-35 mins. Cool and then join the two cakes together with half the whipped cream, using the rest to decorate the top along with the extra chocolate and walnuts.

Happy stitching
