Annie's Ramblings 4th March 2021 - Spending the Kids Inheritance!

Hi there. Another week has rolled around and it won’t be long before we are clearing up the leaves from the garden and wondering if we have ordered enough firewood. As much as I look forward to the change of seasons, I am not sure I could handle living in Alaska or Siberia where living through it or preparing for winter is all consuming. However I have probably got enough stitching projects to keep me going for a very long winter!

If you have been giving serious consideration to how you can spend the kid’s inheritance or the overseas holiday fund, Bernina might just the deal for you by way of a $1,000.00 trade in (any working sewing machine) on any of the 7 and 8 series machines, Q16, Q20 or Q24 long arms. Talk to us today!

The sewing machine “foot of the month” from Bernina is the #72 Ruler foot which is $199.00, as a bonus you will receive a Bernina starter ruler valued at $39.95 free with purchase.

If your sewing machine or overlocker is in need of some TLC, our mechanics will be more than happy to service any make or model and we promise not to ask you any personal questions about when you last had it serviced! What’s more (depending on the availability of parts) we can usually have the machine back to you within a couple of days. If you are coming from out of town, and make a booking it may be possible to have the machine serviced while you are checking out the shops and having lunch.

5 03.21 2New in this week we have new issues of Quiltmania, Simply Modern and Simply Vintage magazines which are bursting with new projects and great ideas.

This great kids range called Animal Crackers by Sweetwater for Moda is really fun featuring little monkeys, crocodiles, cows and other critters along with some great co-ordinating fabrics. We have charm squares, jelly rolls and co-ordinating fabrics in store now. These fabrics are very gender neutral and would make a gorgeous cot quilt, nappy bag, change mat, bibs, cushions and all kinds of handy things!

Now.....onto the recipe which is a tasty and healthy snack and there is not a deep fryer in sight!

Spicy Roasted Chickpeas

  • 1 400 g can of chickpeas
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp mild curry powder

Line a baking tray with grease proof paper and heat the oven to 170C.

Rinse and drain the chickpeas, and the toss in a bowl with the salt and spices to coast them evenly. Roast for an hour until golden and crispy. Yum!

Must dash, see you at the Christchurch Arts Centre (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) this weekend at the Fabric Bonanza and exhibition of the Aotearoa Quilters Aqua Challenge.
