Hi there,  what a busy few weeks we have had!  It was great to see so many of you at the Great New Zealand Quilt Show in Christchurch last weekend.  It was so good to see such amazing quilts, great merchants and happy quilters at such a well organised event.

With wars, global warming, tarriffs, budgets and all other kinds of worries…isn’t it great that we can all create a few moments of peace in our corner of the world with a needle and thread.

Lots of great new fabrics (including William Morris, Liberty, Grunge and French General), charm squares, layer cakes, cross stitch patterns and goodies have been arriving lately, with plenty of new kits projects in store as well.
These will all be added to the website in the coming week.

Have you tried the new DMC Ecovita wool threads?  We have the full range of this beautiful colours in store and I have been working on some samples…I will tell you more next time!
First up, I am very pleased to be able to tell you that I have finally finished my version of  “Happy Land” designed by Anni Downs from Hatched and Patched.  (Complete with hand quilting!)
Happyland is a very popular Block of the Month quilt, and you can join up with us anytime.  It is delightfully whimsical and most enjoyable to stitch.  We have used the same fabrics that used in the original quilt.

Now, onto the recipe.  This is a tasty recipe for lunch or dinner teamed up with some salad, avocado, crispy bacon,egg or salmon perhaps if that is your flavour.  The left overs are good too!

Kumara and Pumpkin Fritters

• 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
• ¼ c cornflour
• ¼ tsp ground cumin
• 3 cups peeled and grated orange kumara
• 1 c peeled and grated butternut pumpkin
• ½ finely chopped onion
• 100 g crumbled feta

Heat the oven to 180C fanbake.
Combine all the ingredients into a bowl and season with salt and pepper.  Place 2 tbsp oil in a non stick fry pan and cook the fritters in batches until browned.

Place the cooked fritters on an oven tray and cook for a further 10 mins until tender.
To make a tasty dressing, mix together about 200 g of creme fraiche or sour cream with 1 tsp horseradish, some fresh herbs and the zest of half a lemon and a tablespoon of lemon juice.
