Mary Coleby, Ackworth School 1803
On the back of this framed antique, was found a very aged handwritten note: "This Sampler was worked by Mary Coleby of Kelvedon, Essex when Eleven years of age at Ackworth School Yorkshire. Born 1792 - married in 1814 to Edward Gripper of Layer Breton Hall, Essex - had thirteen children - died 1862 - buried in Friends' Burying Ground, Layer Breton. Further extensive provenance included in chart.
Pattern is stitched on 46 ct linen using Au Ver a Soie 100/3 silk. Stitch counts is 274 wide x 339 high. Finished size is 11.91 inches wide x 14.73 inches.
