Annie's Ramblings - Cross Stitch Kits

Hi there.  Isn’t it great…spring has sprung, the weather is beautiful and the days are getting longer.  I love this time of year with its promise of warmth and colour!

1.9.16 2I hate to say it, but this also brings with it the threat or promise of the Christmas season.  (Yes, I know we are just entering into September…I will go and wash my mouth out right away).

However, just in case you are keen to get a jump start on the festive season I have got a really good deal on these gorgeous cross stitch ornament kits from Dimensions (thank you to one of my favourite wholesalers).  The designs are worked on 14 count plastic canvas, which is included in the kit along with instructions and a needle, with a finished measurement of approx 3.25” x 4.25” depending on the design.  Usually $16.00 each, these are half price at $8.00 with five different designs to choose from.

1.9.16 1I have also recently discovered another very talented Australian designer Antoine Alexander who is producing some really cool bright and happy quilts for kids which are now available from Annie’s and you can check these out on the website.  We are also able to put these together as kits for you if you wish.

Last weekend we hosted a fabulous workshop with Australian quilt designer and tutor Katrina Hadjimichael.  There was lots to learn as Katrina has developed lots her own techniques to make needleturn applique and English Paper Piecing easy with great results – even for complete beginners.

I am also pleased to be able to tell you that I have invited Katrina back to teach a class focusing on machine piecing and applique in October next year after Symposium.  More details about this later.

Now…..on to the recipe.  I notice that avocados are far more reasonably priced at the moment, so maybe it is a chance to try something a little bit ‘outside the square’ with this delicious dessert.

Chocolate Avocado Mousse (Serves 12!)

  • 2 large avocados
  • 1 banana
  • 10 ml vanilla extract
  • 100 g good quality cocoa powder
  • 120 ml maple syrup

Place all the ingredients in the food processor and blend until smooth.

Pipe into glasses and serve with fresh strawberries.

Well, I must dash as there is lots on the ‘to do’ list today.

Take care and happy stitching.

Rachel
