Annie's Ramblings 11 November, 2015

Hi there.  I love this time of the year when the grass is green, the garden is starting to impress and new season fruit and vegetables are in abundance.

It is also the time of the year when we start seeing the brand new fabrics, notions, and patterns start coming through that have just been released at the wholesale quilt market in the US….just in case we don’t have enough stock!

11november2015 2Speaking of new stock, we have just received the first copies of Sue Spargo’s new book Stitches to Savour with more stock to come.  This is a brilliant book, full of inspiration and stunning photographs showing the detail of Sue’s work in vibrant colour.  It is $56.00 and would make a great Christmas present (time to start dropping hints to family members!)

I have just finished putting the binding on my new flying geese quilt featured in the first issue of Quiltmania’s Simply Modern Magazine, which I am teaching as a class next weekend (21-22 November).  There are still a couple of places left in the class for what should be fun and relaxed way to learn a quick and easy piecing technique, use up some of those FQ’s lurking in your stash and have an uninterrupted weekend sewing.  It is $60.00 for the two day class plus the cost of the magazine, so be in quick!

11november2015 1The second issue of Simply Modern is now in store also.  Keep in mind that with any of the magazines we stock, we are happy to place these on standing order for you so that you never miss an issue of your favourite magazine.

If you need some more inspiration or ‘to-do” projects to add to the pile, take a look at the website for Hoffman Fabrics, there are some fabulous free patterns here that you can download with ideas for using their beautiful batiks and feature fabrics.

Ok, onto the recipe.  With Christmas coming up it does give us an excuse to be a little decadent, and let’s face it Chocolate Ganache goes with anything!

Chocolate Ganache

  • ½ c cream
  • 200 g good quality chocolate

In a saucepan heat the cream until just below boiling point.  Remove from the heat and stir in the grated chocolate until melted and smooth.  Allow to cool and thicken before using.  This makes about a cup and will keep for a day or so in a cool place (not in the fridge).

Well, that is it from me today.  Take care and happy stitching.

Rachel
