Annie's Ramblings - Don't forget Mothers Day!

Hi there. It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of April. It has been a bit of a treat to having a few days off for Easter, but we are gearing up for the very busy month of May.

26.04.19 1The Annual Bernina sale continues until after Mother’s Day (it is never too late to start dropping hints about this...or simply leaving notes strategically around the house!) We have great savings on both Bernina and Bernette overlockers as well as 20% off machine accessories.

Every Bernina devotee should also have some of this fabric which has just arrived in. It is normally $29.90 pm, but will be just $25.00 pm for the duration of the sale

This Saturday we have the UFO Day from 10-4. Time to air out those unfinished objects and bring them along for an uninterrupted day of sewing.

26.04.19 2The following weekend (3-5 May) along with local members of Aoteraroa Quilters, Annie’s is hosting the annual colour challenge with the “Pink Exhibition” as well as the “Art Deco Challenge Quilts”. This is an opportunity to see some amazing talent on display from quilters and textile artists throughout New Zealand. This will be open in the classroom from 10-4 each day with a gold coin donation for entry.

The Woolly Stitchers Day is set down for Saturday the 11th and then I will be taking ‘the shop’ to Motueka for their annual quilt exhibition the following weekend. I think there maybe a couple of places left in the Tuffet (foot stool) class on the 25-26th of May if you get in quick!

Due to a couple of cancellations there are also a three or four places left for our annual retreat in Akaroa. This is always very popular, however this year I seem to have picked a weekend that clashes with lots of other events, so it is first in first served for the remaining spots for what promises to be a relaxing weekend of stitching, shopping, good food and fabulous company!

Now, on to the recipe which is a good school holiday one to make with the kids or for a weekend breakfast treat. To be served with lashing of bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes or mushrooms depending on the day or how hungry you are!

Hash Browns

  • 4 large potatoes
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Olive oil for frying.

Scrub the potatoes and grate them along with the onion. Place in a clean tea towel and squeeze out the excess moisture. Place in a bowl and mix in the egg and salt.

Heat the oil in the pan and cook batches for about 2 minutes on each side until the hash browns are golden and crispy.

Happy sewing
